I started simplifying my life 7 years ago.
I was one who did already live, relatively simply.
There was plenty of remove for improvement however, and still to this day I continue to choose to not attach to things and allow them to ebb in and out of my life. If I don’t use it, if it doesn’t bring joy, if I haven’t worn it – it goes.
And it feels so great to do so.
I simplified the clothes that I wear, I simplified the food that eat. I simplified the home I live in, all the items in the kitchen, the towels, the blankets, the sheets. I simplified all of it. I went down the minimalism route – even to the extreme – where I was left with one duffle bag, a backpack, and a shoulder bag – that was it.
I simplified the way that I speak, I simplified my social group, I simplified everything.
I had one hiccup though that I’ve been working on shifting. I had chosen, 7 years ago, to uplevel in my career. Thinking this would simplify things.
The process of getting there however meant spending any extra time I had building a new career from scratch – I mean absolute bare bones scratch. And in my attempt to escape the rat race everyone was talking about ( that I can now see I wasn’t even in ) – I got caught right up in it.
In todays world its all about the hustle, accomplishment, getting things done, squeezing one more thing in, tackling another project, progress, progression, building momentum – that we forget to make time to breath; to sit in the backyard and stare at a tree; happily may I add.
I will say I didn’t get swept up into it anywhere near a much as I could have.
More than I would have liked though.
So I’ve been recommitting to my original desire.
To live simply – career included.
And to continue to choose to be one of the now many who are shifting the paradigm around work. Erasing the programming that work means hustle, stress, never enough time – to peaceful, joyful, easy, all in perfect timing, never forced, simply fluid.
We are nature – and nature doesn’t rush – yet gets everything done, in perfect timing. If you need to declutter, or would like to – whether that be your living space, friend group, closet, mental space etc – and a step by step list of how to do that would be helpful – reply to this post saying ‘I’m ready to declutter’ and I’ll gift you a list that will help you do so.
Life slows down, simplifies, and becomes intoxicatingly peaceful when we do so.
